The Northfield football team trailed 14-6 early in the second quarter before going on an offensive eruption at Peru Friday, defeating the Tigers 50-14.
The Norse would get on the board first with 10:00 left in the first quarter when Matt Coe scored from 12yds out to make it 6-0. Peru would score just one minute later on a 55yd run to tie the game 6-6.
With 11:37 left in the second quarter the Tigers would take their first and only lead of the game for a 14-6 lead before Coe broke loose again from 66yds out. Kyle Reed would convert the two point conversion to make it 14-14 at the half.
In the third Levi Fulkerson would connect with Coe on a 19yd scoring pass to grab a 21-14 lead. With 6:54 left in the quarter Reed would block a punt into the end zone that resulted in a safety that increase the lead to 23-14. The Norse were far from done in the quarter. With 5:52 left John Schuler would score from 11yds out and was followed by Coe scoring again from 3yds out with 4:50 left as the Norse opened a 36-14 lead after three.
The Norse would continue to roll in the fourth, getting a 53yd scoring run from Coe with 10:49 left and put icing on the cake with 6:53 remaining when Kade Kennedy picked off a pass and ran it back 74yds to pay dirt, then kicked the extra point for the 50-14 final.
