Friday night at Whitko the Norse got that shot and took full advantage, holding the Wildcats under 200 total yards while gaining over 400 for a 34-12 win. With the win the Norse win the TRC north and will now play at North Miami next Friday for the TRC title.
Northfield struck early when Jensen Frieden found the end zone from 37yds out with 10:23 on the clock for a 6-0 lead, then got a second score from Frieden on a 52yd run with 4:07 on the clock to lead 13-0 after one.
Whitko would get the lone score of the second quarter with 1:21 left as the Norse led 13-6 at the half.
Things got interesting early in the third when Wildcat running back Garrett Elder broke loose on a 64yd score to cut the lead to 13-12, but that would be the end of the threat. Ryan Driscoll ran the insuing kick off back to the Whitko 47 before a Norse drive stalled at the 8 on a lost fumble. The defense would hold and the offense made it pay off with Frieden scoring for a third time from 3yds out with 3:58 left to make it 20-12. With 1:55 left in the quarter Driscoll would recover a fumble and once again the Norse took advantage with John Schuler finding pay dirt from 3yds out with 20 seconds left in the quarter as the Norse lead grew to 27-12.
Time management would be the key in the fourth as the Norse defense dominated. With 3:11 left to play Lane Evans would throw up a 14 yard hale mary that Kade Kennedy went up and got for the final score of the night in the 34-12 win.
The highlight of the night was the Norse defense holding TRC rushing leader Garrett Elder to 95yds, with 64 of those yards coming on one run.
