Ryan Keaffaber threw a 2-hit shutout to lead the Norse past Lewis Cass 3-0 in the Wabash Sectional semi final. Keaffaber walked 1 and struck out 5 in throwing only 73 pitches. He retired the first 11 batters before allowing a 2 out double in the 4th.
The Norse struck early as Adam Roser reached on an error, moved to second on a balk and later scored on a fielder’s choice hit by Andy Roser. The Norse added a second run in the 3rd as Adam Roser singled, took second on a balk and later scored on a fielder’s choice hit by Andy Roser.
The Norse added an insurance run in the 6th as Collin Dawes singled in a run with a 2 out hit in the 6th that scored Jared Kirtlan. DH Andy Maggart walked to lead off the inning and Kirtlan, who played right field, pinch ran. He was moved to 3rd on successful sac bunts by Bryce Kendall and Dallas Hovey.
Bryce Kendall led the Norse with 2 hits and caught a great game behind the plate.
With the win, Ryan Keaffaber moves into a 2nd place tie all-time in Indiana with 45 career wins tying Robbie Clark of Hammond Gavit who won the same from 1975-78. Keaffaber stands one won behind the all-time leader, Steve DeRoos of Wheeler, who won 46 games between 1984-87.
The Norse improved to 25-3 and play Oak Hill for the Wabash Sectional championship tomorrow night at 6:30 pm.
